1、The Old Cat
An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it.
Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat. The cat said, "Do not hit your old servant. I have worked for you for many years, and I would work for you still, but I am too old. Do not be unkind to the old, but remember what good work the old did when they were young."

一位老婦有只貓，這只貓很老，它跑不快了，也咬不了東西，因?yàn)樗昙o(jì)太大了。一天，老貓發(fā)現(xiàn)一只老鼠，它跳過(guò)去抓這只老鼠，然而，它咬不住這只老鼠。因此，老鼠從它的嘴邊溜掉了，因?yàn)槔县堃Р涣怂?/p>

2、The Tortoise and the Hare
The Hare was once boasting of his speed before other animals. “I have never been beaten，” said he， “when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me.”
The Tortoise said quietly， “I accept your challenge.” “That is a good joke，” said the Hare； “I could dance round you all the way.” “Keep your boasting till you‘ve won，” answered the Tortoise. “Shall we race？”
So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare darted almost out of sight at once， but soon stopped and， to show his contempt for the Tortoise， lay down to have a nap. The Tortoise plodded on and plodded on， and when the Hare awoke from his nap， he saw the Tortoise just near the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race.
Then the Tortoise said： “Slow but steady progress wins the race.”

《烏龜與兔子》
從前有一只兔子，他在其它動(dòng)物面前吹噓自己跑得是如何如何的快。
“當(dāng)我全速奔跑的時(shí)候，我從來(lái)沒(méi)有被打敗過(guò)，”他說(shuō)，“誰(shuí)敢跟我比一比？” “我來(lái)跟你跑一場(chǎng)”，一只烏龜沉著地說(shuō)。
“快笑死我了，” 兔子說(shuō)，“我一邊跑一邊圍著你跳舞都能贏你”。 “你跑贏了再吹牛吧”，烏龜說(shuō)，“我們可以開(kāi)始比賽了嗎？”
于是，他們確定了一條比賽路線和起點(diǎn)。比賽開(kāi)始，兔子是嗖的一聲就跑得沒(méi)影了，但他很快就停了下來(lái)。 為了讓烏龜知道他并沒(méi)把烏龜放在眼里，兔子決定睡上一覺(jué)再接著跑。 這時(shí)，烏龜正一點(diǎn)一點(diǎn)艱難地向前爬著。 當(dāng)兔子一覺(jué)醒來(lái)，發(fā)現(xiàn)烏龜離終點(diǎn)已經(jīng)很近了，要追已經(jīng)趕不上了。
這時(shí)，烏龜說(shuō)：“踏踏實(shí)實(shí)、一步步前進(jìn)，你就會(huì)贏得比賽”。
