A self-important lion in the jungle tried to make his mastery clear to all.
He was so confident that he paid no attention to the smaller animals and went right up to a bear. He asked the bear, "Who is the king of the jungle?" The bear replied, "Of course you are."
Then the lion asked a tiger the same question. The tiger replied with some reluctance1, "Of course you are." And then he went to ask an elephant. But the elephant would not allow the lion to do so. He suddenly took hold of the lion with his long nose and bounced2 the lion against a tree, leaving him bleeding3 and badly shaken up.
When the lion finally got up, he blamed the elephant and said: "Even if you couldn't answer my question, it's not necessary for you to act so rough4."
熱帶叢林里的一個(gè)妄自菲薄的獅子試圖使所有的動(dòng)物都明白它的統(tǒng)治地位。

In spring, the mother pig took the little pig LuLu to the foot of the mountain. They planted some watermelon.
When summer came, there were many big round watermelons in the field.
One day, the sun was burning like a fire, it was terribly hot on the ground. The mother pig said to the little pig:"Lulu, go to the field to pick a watermelon back,ok?" Lulu said happily:"Ok! No problem."
Then he ran to the watermelon field. When he got to the field, he was happy to find so many big green watermelons. He chose one of the biggest watermelon and picked it from the vine. Then he held it with his hands trying to lift is on his shoulder to carry it home.
"Wow!It's so heavy!" Lulu tried several times, but he failed. And he was socked with sweat. He wiped his sweat off and decided to have a rest.
Suddenly he saw the monkey Pipi. He was playing with a hoop. Lulu patted his head and said:"I've got it." He thought,the round hoop can roll, the watermelon round too,then it can roll too.He then put the big melon on the ground and rolled it forward quickly.
At last he got home with the watermelon.The mother pig knew the story, she exclaimed:"My child, you're really clever!"

有一天，太陽(yáng)光火辣辣地照著大地，天啊，可熱了。豬媽媽對(duì)小豬說：“嚕嚕，你到咱們的地里摘個(gè)大西瓜回來(lái)解解渴吧!”小豬嚕嚕高興地說：“好吧!”說完就往西瓜地里跑。到了地里一看。呵，到處躺著大西瓜，水靈靈的，真惹人喜愛!嚕嚕挑了個(gè)的摘了下來(lái)。它雙手摟著西瓜，想抱起來(lái)放在肩上扛回家。“喲，好重呀!”嚕嚕試著抱了幾次都沒有抱起來(lái)，還累得滿頭大汗。 它直起身來(lái)，擦了擦臉上的汗水想休息一下，再去試試抱西瓜。突然，它看到小猴皮皮在山下邊的馬路上滾鐵環(huán)玩呢。小豬嚕嚕一拍后腦勺高興地說：“有了，我有辦法了�！笔裁崔k法呢?小豬嚕嚕心想：鐵環(huán)是圓的，可以滾動(dòng)。西瓜也是圓的，不也可以滾動(dòng)嗎?想到這兒啊，小豬嚕嚕顧不上休息，把大西瓜放在地上。咕嚕嚕，咕嚕嚕地向前滾，一直把西瓜滾到家里。
豬媽媽看到小豬嚕嚕把又圓又大的西瓜搬回家，夸獎(jiǎng)嚕嚕是個(gè)愛動(dòng)腦筋的豬娃娃!

Father had a family of sons who were perpetually quarrelling among themselves. When he failed to heal their disputes by his exhortations, he determined to give them a practical illustration of the evils of disunion; and for this purpose he one day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They each tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it.
He next unclosed the faggot, and took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into their hands, on which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words： “My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks.”
一位父親有幾個(gè)孩子，這些孩子時(shí)常發(fā)生口角。他絲毫沒有辦法來(lái)勸阻他們，只好讓他們看看不合群所帶來(lái)害處的例子。為了達(dá)到這個(gè)目的，有一天他叫他們替他拿一捆細(xì)柴來(lái)。當(dāng)他們把柴帶來(lái)時(shí)，他便先后地將那捆柴放在每一個(gè)孩子的手中，吩咐他們弄斷這捆柴。他們一個(gè)個(gè)盡力去試，總是不能成功。
然后他解開那捆柴，一根根地放在他們手里，如此一來(lái)，他們便毫不費(fèi)力地折斷了。于是他就告訴他們說：“孩子們!如果你們大家團(tuán)結(jié)一致，互相幫助，你們就像這捆柴一樣，不能被你們的敵人折斷;但如果你們自行分裂，你們就將和這些散柴一般，不堪一折了�！�
