清明節(jié)有種掃墓的習(xí)俗叫“前三后四”，也就是說百姓掃墓應(yīng)該選擇清明節(jié)當(dāng)天的前三天或者后四天去進(jìn)行掃墓、祭拜逝去的親人。為了倡導(dǎo)低碳祭拜，近幾年，百姓們衍生出了許多低碳環(huán)保的祭拜方式，“紙錢”祭拜將逐漸淡去。
說到“紙錢”，英語中是怎么表述的呢？大家可能第一時間想到的就是paper money，不過字面上的確是“紙錢”的意思，實(shí)際上paper money的意思是“紙質(zhì)貨幣”，與“金屬貨幣”metal money相對應(yīng)，是“人世”的錢，不是燒給死者的紙錢哦：例：The Song dynasty was the first government in world history to issue paper money. 宋朝是世界上第一個發(fā)行紙幣的政府。
那么，燒給死者的紙錢是什么呢？一起來看看有哪些說法：By overloading the path with spiritual money, hopefully all troubled souls on the way will be too occupied with the money and leave the traveling-soul alone.在路上灑滿紙錢，亡魂就會忙于撿錢，不會騷擾過路者。

以上兩種說法，spiritual money和hell bank notes都比較形象地說明了“紙錢”的本質(zhì)，一是象征意義上的錢（spiritual），二是燒給陰間（hell）的人使用的鈔票（bank notes）所以，紙錢我們可以說spiritual money或者 hell bank notes。
