Madrid is one of Europe's largest cities, located at the very center of the Iberian Peninsula(伊比利亞半島), sitting at a height of 2,200 feet above sea level. The climate of Madrid(馬德里,西班牙的首都和城市) is characterized by warm dry summers and cool winters.
Madrid is called "the capital of joy and contentment." It has plenty of sights to keep the eyes, ears and mind occupied. It has great art museums including the Museo del Prado, and buildings like the Palacio Real that span the centuries, plus lively plazas, prominent boulevards(林蔭大道) and charming neighborhoods.
Madrid isn't just a cultural destination however. It is also a lively metropolis(大都市) with pubs, cafés, discotheques(迪斯科舞廳) and nightclubs that stay open late into the night. No visit to Madrid would be complete without experiencing Madrid's legendary nightlife. Don't be surprised if you get stuck in a traffic jam at four in the morning and the people you meet are not necessarily going off to work.
With options ranging from the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the world to the standard fast food fare, Madrid offers culinary(廚房的,烹調(diào)用的) choices for all tastes and budgets. What tourists should bear in mind more than anything else are the eating hours in Spain. Lunch and the evening meal start much later than in many other countries. Lunch never starts before 1:30 p.m., and can be as late as 3:00 or 3:30 p.m. Dinner starts any time after 8:00 p.m., and many restaurants will not open until nine. In the summer, some families will not sit down for their evening meal until as late as 23:00.
Nobody is a foreigner in Madrid. Strangers quickly become friends, passion blooms in an instant and visitors swiftly(很快地,即刻) become addicted(使沉溺) to the city's charms. Anybody who arrives in Madrid and remains in the city for some time will find it difficult to leave.
