　　他說(shuō)的“skeleton in the closet”(英國(guó)人則習(xí)慣說(shuō)成skeleton in the cupboard)現(xiàn)在的意義并沒(méi)有那么可怕。不過(guò)據(jù)說(shuō)當(dāng)年這個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)產(chǎn)生的時(shí)候的確指那些有錢(qián)人家謀殺了一個(gè)人，把骸骨暗藏在壁櫥中，不讓外人知道，從此skeleton in the closet就成了那家人的秘密，后來(lái)這個(gè)短語(yǔ)用來(lái)指不可或不愿外揚(yáng)的家丑，簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng)作family skeleton。例如：Many old families have a number of skeletons in their closets which they are loath to discuss(許多古老的家族中有很多秘密，他們不愿談及這些話題。)
