Cheetah feet are
like soccer cleats.
獵豹的腳就像是足球鞋一樣。
They have thick pads
and short,strong claws.
長著厚厚的腳掌，短小而有力的爪子。
This keeps cheetahs
from slipping as they
race to catch their prey.
這可以幫助獵豹在追趕獵物的時候不滑倒。
Feet can hop.
腳也可以跳躍
Danger comes.
No time to wait.

These feet hop
to find a hiding place.

Bunny feet!
是兔子的腳！
When scared,
bunnies do not run.
Instead, they hop.

Their long feet
make strong springs.

Strong springs mean
a fast getaway!

Feet can hang.

Right side up,
these feet look frail.

But upside down,
these feet hang on tight.

Bat feet!

They are like tiny hooks.

Most bats cannot stand.

Their legs are too weak.

But bat feet are strong.

They can hang
from branches,beams,

and even holes in rocks!

貓頭鷹寶寶Once there were three baby owls:
從前，有三只貓頭鷹寶寶：
Sarah and Percy and Bill.
Sarah、Percy和Bill。
They lived in a hole in the trunk of a tree with their owl mother.
他們和媽媽一起住在一個樹洞里。
The hole had twigs and leaves and owl feathers in it.
洞里鋪著樹枝、葉子和羽毛。
It was their house.

One night they woke up and their Owl Mother was GONE.

"Where's Mommy?" asked Sarah.

"Oh my goodness!" said Percy.

"I want my mummy!" said Bill.

The baby owls thought (all owls think a lot )-
小寶寶們想（所有的貓頭鷹都喜歡瞎想）——
"I think she's gone hunting," said Sarah.
“我猜她是去打獵了�！盨arah說。
"To get us our food!" said Percy.
“是去給我們找吃的！”Percy說。
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
“我要媽媽！”Bill嚷嚷。
But their Owl Mother didn’t come.
但是貓頭鷹媽媽沒有回來。
The baby owls came out of their house and they sat on the tree and waited.
貓頭鷹寶寶們從樹洞里出來，坐在樹上等媽媽。
A big branch for Sarah,a small branch for Percy,and an old piece of ivy for Bill.
Sarah坐在一根很粗的樹枝上，Percy坐在一根細細的樹枝上，Bill坐在一條老常春藤上。
"She'll be back," saidSarah.
“她會回來的�！盨arah說。
"Back soon!" said Percy.
“馬上就會回來！”Percy說。
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
“我要媽媽！”Bill嚷嚷。
It was dark in the wood and they have to be brave,for things moved all around them.
森林里很黑，有什么東西在他們周圍動來動去，他們只能給自己壯膽。
"She’ll bring us mice and things that are nice." said Sarah.
“她會帶著老鼠和其他好東西回來�！盨arah說。
"I suppose so!" said Percy.
“我猜也是！”Percy說。
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
“我要媽媽！”Bill嚷嚷。
They sat and they thought(all owls think a lot)-

"I think we should all sit on my branch." said Sarah.
“我覺得我們應該都坐到我這兒來�！盨arah說。
And they did, all three together.

"Suppose she got lost." said Sarah.
“她可能迷路了�！盨arah說。
"Or a fox got her!" said Percy.
“也可能是被狐貍抓住了！”Percy說。
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
“我要媽媽！”Bill嚷嚷。
And the baby owls closed their owl eyes and wished their Owl Mother would come.
貓頭鷹寶寶們閉上眼睛祈禱，希望他們的媽媽能回來。
AND SHE CAME.
她終于回來了。
Soft and silent, she swooped through the trees to Sarah and Percy and Bill.
她無聲無息地沖過樹叢，向Sarah、Percy 和Bill飛來。
"Mummy!" they cried,
“媽媽！”他們喊，
and they flapped and they danced,and they bounced up and down on their branch.
他們拍著翅膀跳起舞來，他們在樹枝上又蹦又跳。
"WHAT’S ALL THE FUSS?" their Owl Mother asked.
有什么好大驚小怪的呀？”他們的貓頭鷹媽媽說
"You knew I’d come back."

Poppa made angel wings in the snow.
爸爸在雪地里做出一個天使的翅膀。
I can do that too! thought Mouse.
我也能做到！小老鼠想。
Mouse made angel wings in the snow too.
于是他也在雪里做出了天使的翅膀。
"Wonderful!" said Poppa.
“好極了！”爸爸說。
"Let's make a snow house!" said Poppa.
“讓我們做個雪屋吧！” 爸爸說。
Poppa built a grand snow house.
爸爸做了一個很大的雪屋。
I can do that too! thought Mouse.
我也能做到！小老鼠心里想。
Mouse built a grand snow house too.
于是他也做了一個大大的雪屋。
"Good work!" said Poppa.
“做得好！”爸爸說。
"Let's make a surprise!" said Poppa.
“讓我們創(chuàng)造一個驚喜吧！” 爸爸說。
Poppa rolled a round snowball.
爸爸滾了一個圓圓的雪球。
I can do that too! thought Mouse.
我也能做一個，小老鼠心里想。
Mouse rolled a round snowball too.
于是他也滾了一個圓圓的雪球。
"Just right!" said Poppa.
“做得剛剛好！” 爸爸說。
Then,tipsy-turvy,climb on top...
然后，爸爸東倒西歪地爬上了雪球的頂端。
"Look!" said Poppa.
“看！” 爸爸說。
"A frosty little snow mouse just like you!"
