Look at the Sky from the Bottom of a Well
There is a frog. He lives in a well and he never goes out of the well. He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well.
有一只青蛙住在井底,他從來沒有去過井外面。他以為天空就和井口一樣大。
One day a crow comes to the well. He sees the frog and says, “Frog, let’s have a talk.”
一天, 一只烏鴉飛到井邊,看見青蛙,就對它說:“青蛙,咱們聊聊吧!
Then the frog asks, “Where are you from?”
青蛙就問他:“你從哪里來?”
“I fly from the sky,” the crow says.
“我從天上上來!睘貘f說。
The frog feels surprised and says, “The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well. How do you fly from the sky?”
青蛙驚訝地說:“天空就只有這井口這么大,你怎么會從天上來? ”
The crow says, “The sky is very big. You always stay in the well, so you don’t know the world is big.”
烏鴉說:“天空很大。只不過你一直呆在井里,所有不知道世界很大!
The frog says, “I don’t believe.”
青蛙說:“我不相信!
But the crow says, “You can come out and have a look by yourself.”
烏鴉說:“你可以出來,自己看看嘛!
So the frog comes out from the well. He is very surprised. How big the world is!
于是青蛙來到井外。他十分驚訝,原來世界這么大!

Once upon a time, the animals living on the ground and those flying in the sky fought against each other. However, a bat could not take part on either side because he was timid and had no courage.
When the beasts seemed like winning, the bat went to them and said, "I would like to fight with you." They believed him.
Yet, the bat began to worry, as the birds started to move ahead. So, the bat went to them and begged, "I am on your side because I am winged, too."
They pleasantly accepted the bat. "Sure. Since you have wings, you are on our side." The fight between the birds and the beasts continued and the bat went back and forth to the winning side.
Then one day, peace was made in the woods. The birds and the beasts learned that the bat went hither and thither between them. All the animals determined to expel him. Turned away from both sides, the bat started to live in a dark cave.
從前,地上的動物和天上的動物經(jīng)常打架。然而,蝙蝠無法參加任何一方的隊伍,因為他很膽小,缺乏勇氣。

During the Spring and Autumn period, Nobleman ZhiBo of the Jin state eliminated the Fan clan [in battle]. There was a person who sought to take advantage of the defeated [and thus absent] Fan clan to steal some things from their house, and he saw that in their yard dangled a large bell. The bell was molded from the finest bronze, its shape and design were very fine indeed. The thief was extremely happy, thinking to take this refined bell and carry it back to his own house. But the bell was both big and heavy, and howsoever he tried, he couldn’t move it. He thought and thought, and came up with just one solution, which was to break the bell to bits, then take the pieces separately back to his house.
The thief found a sledgehammer, and swung at the bell with all his might. A loud “gong” sound rang out, startling the thief. The thief panicked, thinking this [enterprise] was spoiled, thinking “that kind of noise is tantamount to telling people that I’m here stealing the bell, isn’t it?” He was worried, and he flung is body at the bell, stretching his arms around it to try to still the sound, but really how could he stop it? The sound went on and on, ringing far and wide.
The longer he heard it, the more afraid he became, and withdrew his hands to press them against his ears with all his strength. “Yi, the sound has lessened, I can’t hear it anymore!” The thief became happy again, “How wonderful! If I cover my ears well, the sound can’t be heard!” covered his ears well, he couldn’t hear the sound at all! He immediately found two pieces of cloth and stopped up his ears, thinking that this way, no one else could hear the bell’s sound either. So he began smashing the bell, hitting it again and again, the ringing of the bell being heard even in far away places. People heard the bells sounds and came in great numbers, catching the thief.
春秋時侯,晉國貴族智伯滅掉了范氏。有人趁機跑到范氏家里想偷點東西,看見院子里吊著一口大鐘。鐘是用上等青銅鑄成的,造型和圖案都很精美。小偷心里高興極了,想把這口精美的大鐘背回自已家去?墒晴娪执笥种,怎么也挪不動。他想來想去,只有一個辦法,那就是把鐘敲碎,然后再分別搬回家。
小偷找來一把大大錘,拼命朝鐘砸去,咣的一聲巨響,把他嚇了一大跳。小偷著慌,心想這下糟了,這種聲不就等于是告訴人們我正在這里偷鐘嗎?他心里一急,身子一下子撲到了鐘上,張開雙臂想捂住鐘聲,可鐘聲又怎么捂得住呢!鐘聲依然悠悠地傳向遠方。
他越聽越害怕,不同自由地抽回雙手,使勁捂住自已的耳朵!斑,鐘聲變小了,聽不見了!”小偷高興起來,“妙極了!把耳朵捂住不住就聽不進鐘聲了嗎!”他立刻找來兩個布團,把耳朵塞住,心想,這下誰也聽不見鐘聲了。于是就放手砸起鐘來,一下一下,鐘聲響亮地傳到很遠的地方。人們聽到鐘聲蜂擁而至把小偷捉住了。

The bulging belly fox
A hungry Fox found in a hollow tree a quantity of bread and meat, which some shepherds had placed there against their return. Delighted with his find he slipped in through the narrow aperture and greedily devoured it all. But when he tried to get out again he found himself so swollen after his big meal that he could not squeeze through the hole, and fell to whining and groaning over his misfortune. Another Fox, happening to pass that way, came and asked him what the matter was; and, on learning the state of the case, said, “Well, my friend, I see nothing for it but for you to stay where you are till you shrink to your former size; you’ll get out then easily enough.”
脹肚的狐貍
饑餓的狐貍在一棵中空的樹干中發(fā)現(xiàn)了一些牧羊人存留的面包和肉。高興之余,他立即通過那狹窄的縫隙擠進去,貪婪的大吃起來。然而,當他吃飽之后,卻發(fā)現(xiàn)自己的肚子脹鼓鼓的,即便費了九牛二虎之力,卻怎么也鉆不出那個洞來,便在樹洞里唉聲嘆氣。另一只狐貍恰巧經(jīng)過那里,聽到他的呻 吟,便過去問他原因。聽明白緣由后,那只狐貍便說道:“我的朋友,你就老老實實待在里邊吧,等到恢復(fù)了鉆進去之前的身材,你就能輕松地出來了。”
